Alimak SE industrial lifts meet harsh environmental demands at the Cape Lambert Port B Facility

Cape Lambert Port B Screenhouse, WA, Australia

Alimak Hek install an Alimak SE industrial lift on each of the two Cape Lambert Port B screenhouse facilities. Exposure to iron ore debris, combined with a coastal environment and exposed building structure made the SE lift the prefect access solution for the demanding mine environment.

In 2013, Rio Tinto completed the first of two phases of the new Cape Lambert Port B development. Phase two of the project is currently underway, with the Cape Lambert Port B Facility expected to be completed in 2015.

In 2010, Alimak Hek began work with Rio Tinto and project EPCM, Sinclair Knight Merz, on the supply of two Alimak SE 1200 industrial lifts for installation on each of the two Port B screenhouses. Each of the screenhouses re-screen iron ore lump products to reduce the amount of iron ore fines in the lump ore prior to shipping.

Given the exposure to iron ore dust and debris, combined with the coastal environment of the port and exposed structure of the buildings, the Alimak SE lift was the perfect access solution in such a demanding environment.

Designed for the world’s harshest environments, the Alimak SE lift features heavy duty galvanized construction, with standard steel electrical panels and the option of marine grade aluminum or stainless steel finish.

The Alimak SE 1200 lift is suited to a range of mining applications for the following reasons:

  • A lift car length of over 2m accommodates the dimensions of an emergency stretcher, improving safety and emergency procedures on site.
  • A car width of 1.3m makes the SE 1200 ideal for carrying large palletized loads and equipment.
  • A capacity of 1200 kg or 14 people reduces the need for craneage on site and improves the speed and efficiency of operations.

The lift to the first screenhouse was installed in two stages, with installation work commencing in March 2013 for completion in October 2013. Alimak Hek will complete installation of the lift to the second screenhouse at the Cape Lambert Port B facility in 2014.
